I thought The Silent Patiënt was such a great book that it sparked my love for psychological thrillers. Soon after, Freida McFadden’s books were recommended to me.
The Teacher tells the story of a couple, Eve and Nate Bennet, who married young and now both work as teachers at the same school. No longer in love, they each seek affection elsewhere, living more as roommates than as a couple.
Adeline, a student of both Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, has her own unique connection with each of them. Unknowingly, she becomes more and more entangled in the couple’s troubled relationship.
While the premise was intriguing, the real suspense didn’t fully kicked in until the last 100 pages. Only then, I found myself on the edge of my seat. Thankfully, the ending delivered an unexpected plot twist that caught me by surprise, which I appreciated.
I struggled a bit with my rating for this one. The story itself was solid, but I felt the tension could have been stronger throughout. That said, I’m curious to explore more of Freida McFadden’s books!
